MONUMENT TO GIUSEPPE VERDI IN BUSSETO
Municipality: Busseto (PR) - Theme: ArtIn the main square of the town, named in honor of the Maestro and facing the Rocca Pallavicino, stands the bronze monument dedicated to Giuseppe Verdi, created by the Milanese sculptor Luigi Secchi and inaugurated on October 9, 1913 on the centenary of the Maestro’s birth.
The design choices were also shared by leading architects Luca Beltrami and Camillo Boito in collaboration with the local administration, and from the very day of its inauguration, the monument was warmly welcomed by the community.
The statue depicts Giuseppe Verdi seated, with a contemplative attitude, as if serenely observing the life of the town Busseto he held so dear. The setting of Piazza Giuseppe Verdi enhances the monument: it is a charming square dating back to the 15th century, which also hosts the Civic Tower and today’s Town Hall and Municipal Theatre, also dedicated to the composer.
