Sanvitale Citadel is a Renaissance masterpiece of Italian Mannerism.
Here we find the scenes of the myth of Diana and Actaeon painted by Parmigianino in 1524.
Its construction dates back to 1124 when a first defense tower was erected by Pallavicino family.
Inside the citadel, it is possible to visit the only operating camera obscura in Italy.
Since March 2015, a designed wing of the Castle hosts the Standard of the Blessed Virgin of Fontanellato of the 17th century, probably used, as some documents prove, as a flag of a ship led by a noble Sanvitale who sailed the Mediterrean during the war of Candia.
