Crossing the bridge Verdi over the creek Parma, you reach the park hiding inside the Palazzo Ducale, also called the Palazzo del Giardino.

Built in 1561, it hosted the court of the Duchy until the construction in mid seventeenth century of another palace near the Pilotta.

The palace underwent various modifications and intended use over the centuries, its present form is due to the architect Petitot, architect of Maria Luisa (to whom Verdi dedicated “I Lombardi della Prima Crociata”), creator of a great urban and architectural renaissance of the city.
