Opened in 1863, this luxury hotel in Milan distinguished itself for the presence of the postal telegraph service (something like our wi-fi), which made it essential for diplomats and businessmen.
It was here that Verdi lived a long time, hosted by Teatro alla Scala, during his most important period in Milan.
The hotel was remodeled several times and adapted to the periods, but it’s still a special place attended by artists and celebrities.
At 2.50 on January 27th, 1901, Giuseppe Verdi died in an apartment of the hotel, the no. 105.
He was 88 years old. The bed and furnishings of the hotel room where Giuseppe Verdi died are preserved and can be visited at Villa Verdi Sant’Agata.
