In the basement of Steccata of Parma, wonderful sixteenth-century church decorated, among others, by Parmigianino, we find a very charming place in which were buried the dukes of Parma before and after the reign of Maria Luigia.

In this simple crypt dedicated to the Farnese and to Bourbons, it seems that Verdi was used to go, perhaps to draw inspiration from the tomb of Alessandro Farnese, hero of the Battle of Lepanto, during the writing of the opera “I Lombardi della Prima Crociata,” then dedicated to Maria Luigia.
